False lash care: what you need to know

Until recently, false lashes were seen as tacky and kitschy. Hardly surprising – the products of years past left a lot to be desired, both in how long they lasted and in how they looked. Today, however, you can enjoy high-quality lash extensions that define your gaze and make it truly electrifying – without a trip to a lash stylist. Just remember that the key to success is proper care. Here’s how to do it right.

How to care for false lashes

How do you care for false lashes so they last longer and always look perfect? Keep in mind that you can wear the same pair of magnetic lashes from Wink Beauty up to 30 times or more – but only if you handle them properly.

Let’s start with the basics: storage. Your lashes are ready to apply straight out of the box, and that’s where you should put them back after removing your makeup. This effectively protects them from mechanical damage and moisture. Your false lashes also won’t get tangled or lose their shape, so you don’t have to worry about their condition.

While we’re on the subject of makeup removal, pay special attention to how you take off your magnetic false lashes. If you want them to last for dozens of wears, you can’t use just any product or make careless movements. Grab the outer corner of the band, but first make sure you’re not accidentally holding your natural lashes too. Then slowly peel the false lashes off.

During the day, remember to protect your false lashes from water and any kind of oil. That way, the bands will stay in place all day long and the lashes will stay intact. Also try not to rub your eyes. It’s an easy way to damage your false lashes, which can make it impossible to wear them again.

If you love a dramatic curl and use an eyelash curler every day, it’s best to skip it once your lash extensions are on. You can use it before applying them to give your natural lashes the shape you want. And remember not to sleep in your magnetic lashes.

Washing and combing false lashes

Can you wash false lashes? Absolutely. You just need to know how to do it without damaging them. Whether you wear magnetic lashes or DIY bonding lashes, remember to clean them every day.

How do you clean false lashes so they last a long time and always look flawless? With DIY false lashes, which you can wear for up to five days without removing them, it’s best to cleanse them with a cotton pad every day – from above and below. Don’t use oil-based products. Also avoid rubbing your eyes hard – it’s an easy way not only to damage the lashes, but also to irritate your skin.

Wondering how to clean your magnetic lashes? Remember that they’re applied over eyeliner, which you draw as a line on your upper eyelid. This means product residue can be left on the band. After removing your lashes, check carefully that no residue is stuck to the magnets. To be sure, wipe them with a regular cotton swab soaked in an oil-free makeup remover. Then just let the lashes dry and put them back in their original box.

How do you comb false lashes? Your makeup bag should include a special lash comb or spoolie, designed to gently separate the lashes without damaging them – let alone pulling any out. Comb gently and avoid forceful movements. Also make sure your false lashes have had time to settle properly on your eyelid – both magnetic and DIY. And there’s another bonus: combing your lash extensions helps remove debris and gives them maximum curl.

Which lash brush should you choose? A brush with a long handle works well, as it makes precise use much easier. Pay attention to the shape of the brush, too – a Christmas-tree or cone shape is a versatile choice. Thanks to the tapered tip, you can reach every single lash, even in the very corner of your eye. Keep it hygienic: wash the brush thoroughly after each use and let it dry. This prevents bacteria and other microbes from growing.

Putting mascara on false lashes: is it possible?

Can you wear mascara on false lashes? Opinions are divided. We, however, recommend not applying mascara to magnetic or bonding lashes. Why? There are several reasons. One of the most important is hygiene. Removing mascara from lash extensions is quite tricky, and in many cases even impossible. That in turn means bacteria can grow, which may lead to eye infections. On top of that, rubbing too hard can damage your false lashes or make them shed.

However, there’s nothing stopping you from applying mascara to your natural lashes. We know perfectly well that bare natural lashes can stand out slightly, which can spoil the final effect a little. Just remember to apply mascara to your own lashes before putting on the false ones. Let the mascara dry first – that way you’ll avoid clumping. Before using it, make sure its formula is free of oily ingredients, which can shorten the life of your false lashes.

In short: proper care is absolutely essential if you want to enjoy the full potential of your false lashes for much longer than just a few wears. It’s a win not only for a beautiful, electrifying gaze, but also for good hygiene.
