Well-groomed, beautiful nails are every woman’s calling card. But you don’t have to book an appointment with a professional nail tech every few weeks to enjoy them. Press-on nails are here to help. They’re a great option if you want a stunning result in just 10 minutes. Just remember to look after your natural nail plate between manicures. How? Read on!
How to apply and remove press-on nails safely
Applying press-on nails is very easy.
Start by prepping your cuticles properly. Gently push them back with a wooden stick, and if that’s not enough, trim them with cuticle nippers or precision scissors. Then move on to prepping your natural nail plate. Shape it with a nail file. The key to success, however, is degreasing it – you can do this quickly with the mini disinfecting wipe soaked in ethyl alcohol that comes with every Wink Beauty press-on nail set.
Once your nail plate is prepped, you can apply the press-on nails. Use glue or special adhesive tabs, depending on how long you want to wear your chosen look.
And how do you remove press-on nails without damaging your natural ones? Nothing could be easier!
Simply soak your nails in warm water for about 15 minutes. Add a generous amount of oil and soap. Then gently lift the edges of the nail from the cuticle side. The press-ons should start to come off. If they don’t, soak your nails again. But remember: never force your manicure off! That’s a surefire way to damage your natural nail plate.
Best of all, you can reuse your press-on nails after removing them. There’s just one condition: file off the glue or remove the adhesive tab.
Nail recovery after a manicure
Press-on nails are safe for your natural nails as long as you apply and remove them according to our instructions. Neither the glue nor the adhesive tabs included in Wink Beauty press-on nail sets affect the condition of your natural nail plate.
Still, remember to give your nails thorough care every time you take off a manicure. How do you nourish your nails after removing press-ons? Start by getting rid of any leftover glue or adhesive tab. You can file off glue residue, but be careful not to damage your natural nail plate. Once your nails are thoroughly clean, nourish and moisturize them – a cuticle and nail oil will help. Use it every day: even if your nails are in great condition, it works as prevention and protection. Keep in mind, though, that if you want to reapply press-on nails, there must be no trace of oil on your nails. The nail plate has to be degreased and completely dry. That way, you can be sure your manicure will stay put.
Another absolute must-have is a nourishing hand cream. Keep it with you at all times – whether you’re at home, at work or out for a walk. It gives your nails and cuticles an extra protective layer, making them less prone to dryness and mechanical damage.
If your nails tend to split, don’t forget to protect the free edge. File it gently, for example with a buffer block.
Healthy nails after removing press-ons – what else should you keep in mind?
Proper nail care is one thing. But also pay attention to what’s on your plate. A healthy diet is key if you want to keep not only your nails but also your skin and hair in great shape. Reach for foods packed with vitamins and minerals – think copper, zinc, magnesium and B vitamins, including biotin. Your menu shouldn’t lack protein and healthy fats either.
