Thinking about your first pair of magnetic lashes, but… worried they might be bad for you and your health?
If you want the kind of “magnetic” gaze false lashes give you – without any glue – the magnetic version looks like a really interesting alternative. They’re much easier to apply, they last far longer, and you don’t have to put glue right next to your delicate eyes. BUT!
Yes, there’s a but. Are magnetic strip lashes and magnetic eyeliner actually safe? (Little spoiler: yes, they are!) And what can you do to make them even safer?
Magnetic lashes are safe for your eyes
Wearing magnets so close to your eyes may raise a few doubts. However, a relatively weak magnet like this has no negative effect on your vision whatsoever.
Since the amount of electromagnetic radiation the magnets on false lashes could potentially emit is extremely low, the risk associated with them is minimal.
Good-quality magnetic eyeliner isn’t harmful
How do magnetic lashes work? What makes magnetic eyeliner attract your lashes?
It’s all thanks to iron oxide (INCI: iron oxides), a common ingredient in color cosmetics. If you’ve ever used dark eyeshadow or a regular black eyeliner, chances are it contained this very ingredient.
Iron oxide, which often serves as a black pigment, is on the list of safe colorants approved for use in cosmetics under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council.
Before you buy a magnetic eyeliner, check its ingredients. If anything in the formula worries you, ask a beautician or dermatologist. If the ingredient list is clean, make sure the eyeliner doesn’t cause an allergic reaction before you apply it around your eyes! One ingredient you must avoid is iron powder – it’s banned for cosmetic use in the European Union, but it can turn up in unlabeled products.
Watch out for products that don’t list their ingredients on the website!
Glue is far more problematic here – it can often trigger allergic reactions, stick your eyelids together and damage your lashes. If glue ever gets into your eye, rinse it out with water immediately to be safe.
A good-quality magnetic eyeliner is safer both for you and for the lifespan of your false lashes!
So how can you make wearing magnetic false lashes even safer?
1. Be gentle when taking off your lashes and makeup
When you apply magnetic eyeliner, a little of it may end up on your natural lashes. That’s why it’s so important to remove false lashes gently and slowly. We know that after a long day or a Saturday night out, sometimes all we want is to get into bed as fast as possible, and makeup removal can get a little… brutal 😉 That can take its toll on the delicate skin around your eyes and on your hair follicles.
Take your time. Remove the lashes, clean off any eyeliner residue that has stuck to them and put them back in their original box, which will protect them from dust and other nasties. That way, you’ll be able to enjoy your purchase for a long time.
With glued-on lashes, trying to save them after a full day of wear can easily end in failure. Glue attracts and traps endless amounts of dirt and bacteria and can clump your lashes together. Natural lashes grow back slowly, so it’s best to avoid situations like that!
Taking off magnetic lashes is much easier, but proper hygiene is a must before you put them on again.
2. Your magnetic lashes should be yours alone!
We know how important the social side of makeup is. We love sharing our cosmetics with our friends, but some of them you should keep just for yourself – especially anything that comes into contact with your eyes.
Both magnetic eyeliner and magnetic lashes should be yours and yours alone. And if your friend is dying to borrow them… maybe a set of her own would make the perfect gift? 🙂
3. Test the product before you use it!
This rule applies to every cosmetic. Whenever you add something new to your skincare or makeup routine, you need to be sure it won’t cause an allergic reaction!
That’s why it’s so important to check ingredient lists (you can analyze the ingredients of your cosmetics here) and do a patch test before using a product for the first time.
Ready to try magnetic lashes?
As you’ve probably noticed, magnetic lashes and eyeliners are considered safe for most people, especially compared with false lashes that require glue. The magnetic versions are also easier to use, so you can save time on your morning routine – and as we all know, that really matters in the morning, when every minute counts!
Remember to take care of your strip lashes after removing them and to take off your makeup gently. If you follow basic hygiene rules, you can enjoy your magnetic lashes for up to 30 wears.
Magnetic eyeliner is just as safe as the classic version, and the comfort it gives you is something no other strip lashes can match. If you wear magnetic lashes from Wink Beauty, you’ll definitely appreciate how lightweight and beautifully made they are – and you won’t want to part with them!
